Expo to inspire next generation of Aussie wines

The Australian wine industry will descend on Adelaide next week to connect, network and learn about the latest industry research, trends and technology.

The triennial WineTech Expo, hosted in partnership by Wine Industry Suppliers Australia Inc (WISA), the Australian Wine Industry Technical Conference (AWITC) and Fair Events, offers the opportunity for the industry to gather and learn how to grow the capability and competitiveness of the industry.

WISA CEO Matthew Moate said he was excited at the success of the event, with the support of the industry making it the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere, focusing on providing the opportunity for grape and wine producers to see the latest technology that can improve their business outcomes.

“While Australian’s certainly love the wine we produce, over 60% is exported and that means we play in a global marketplace," he noted.

"Our industry needs to take every opportunity to improve our competitiveness as our competitors often benefit from lower production costs and many are much closer to their export markets, further providing them an advantage."

The WineTech Expo will feature more than 180 exhibitors and attract thousands of industry leaders and decision makers. Visitors will be able to find the latest and innovative world class solutions to improve their business practices and ensure long-term sustainable profitability.

“The wine value-chain is highly complex, technology and business models are rapidly evolving and consumer expectations are increasing," Moate said. "This means that it’s no longer good enough just to make a good wine, you need to be actively embracing new tech to continually improve wine quality, reduce production costs, maximise environmental sustainability and better connect with the people drinking your product.”

The next generation of Australian wine will be heavily influenced by the information and technology available at the show covering the more traditional along with emerging opportunities in automation, AI, machine learning, NFC, e-commerce and IoT.

The WineTech Expo will feature a range of free floor talks across the three days along with pop-up bars and a compelling social program headlined by the McWilliams Wines Maurice O’Shea Awards.
