Garcon Wines in talks to bring flat wine bottles to Australia

A company that creates slimline wine bottles designed to revolutionise wine delivery has revealed it will introduce them to the Australian market this year.

Garçon Wines is a UK invention that involves flattened bottles made from a glass-like plastic tough enough to withstand the rigours of the postal system yet light enough to keep delivery costs down.

"Most definitely we will bring our innovative wine packaging products to Australia," Santiago Navarro, CEO and co-founder of Garçon Wines told Inside FMCG

"In fact, we’re already speaking positively and on a very regular basis with a varied number of Australian wine producers of different sizes – from the very large to the boutique.

"We’re confident that in 2019 our bottles will be offered both in Australia but also with Australian wines across the globe. To date, we have bottled some Australian Shiraz and Chardonnay which we have offered to UK gifting companies. These wines have been well received. So, our relationship with Australia already exists and it’s only likely to grow further over the months and years to come."

The concept of flat wine bottle delivery is particularly applicable to the urban UK market, where letterbox slots are in the front door of houses, but the company has now protected its intellectual property in 35 countries for several designs of the world’s first full-sized postable wine bottles, and is extending its packaging and wholesale business internationally.

It’s breaking new ground by supplying multi-packs for shops that are easier for retailers to store and for consumers to carry home.

Garçon Wines took out Best New Beverage Concept at the 2017 World Beverage Innovation Awards.

RPC M&H Plastics and Garçon Wines also won the award for ‘Best Recycled Plastic Product of the Year’ at the 2018 Plastic industry awards.

The award was for its 100% recyclable bottle design, which enables a circular economy, allowing RPC M&H Plastics to reuse empty bottles in the manufacturing process.
